Science

Science is taught from the Pre-Prep, where it is part of their topic work, through to Year 8 when pupils sit examinations to their senior schools.

The teaching is child-centred; children are encouraged to investigate and research through practical activities, as well as learning to be safe and confident in the laboratory environment.

Pupils in Pre-Prep and Year 3 are taught science in their classrooms and make the most of opportunities to use the extensive grounds for their investigations. From Year 4, pupils are taught science in the purpose-built laboratory, enabling them to access a wide range of investigative work from an early stage. All children in the prep school have access to the laboratory through science clubs and STEM based activities at some point in the year. The Common Entrance syllabus has been updated for exams in 2022, with a focus on learning skills and building confidence ready for the transition to senior school. We are ideally placed to support our pupils, utilising our amazing grounds and specialist equipment to stretch and challenge the children, developing their natural curiosity and building a solid foundation on which to succeed at Common Entrance and beyond.
