U12/U11 Hockey Coaching

A big thank you to Louis Corbin, Assistant Hockey Pro at King’s Bruton, and Kirsty Hoskins, Bath Buccs Ladies 1st XI, also a Hockey coach at King’s Bruton, for some excellent hockey coaching with our U12s and U11s this week. Louis worked with the U12 IAPS squad in preparation for the IAPS finals in Ipswich on 24 November – they looked at creating goal scoring opportunities in tight, hotly contested areas like the D. Kirsty came on a very wet day and helped the year 3 and 4s look at finding space to pass into and coached the U11s and U12s squads as well. Our thanks to you both, and to King’s Bruton for providing two great coaches.

Perrott Hill pumpkins

The judging for our annual pumpkin carving competition took place this morning – and what a difficult job it was, with so many incredible entries! We are delighted to announce that the winning pumpkin is Gengar by Tommy in Year 5. Well done Tommy, and well done to everyone who entered. A brilliant display of hard work and creativity.

The Tinker Lab

A chilly but happy return to school for our pupils this morning, who are already looking forward to some Tinker Lab fun at morning break! The Tinker Lab is a newly opened area as part of our new Science Suite, where children can come and tinker with technology during morning and afternoon breaks. Projects range from taking apart old technology and seeing how things work to getting hands on experience with the latest technologies, such as 3D printing, robotics and drones. The team from Tatler visited Perrott Hill earlier this year for their annual Tatler Schools Guide and said: “We love the sound of the new ‘tinker lab’, where the inquisitive have free rein.” We couldn’t have put it better our ourselves!

A visit from the Westcountry Rivers Trust

Pupils in Years 3-8 recently enjoyed an inspiring and insightful visit from the Westcountry Rivers Trust, with Farm Advisor Yog Watkins talking about all the great work they do. As a follow up, the Axe Valley River Association will be loaning us a tank of salmon parr in December/January to rear for their release programme. Exciting times – and thank you Yog!

A big thank you to our superb coaches, freelance cricket coach Rich Askew and our Graduate Residential Assistant George Agius, who has just come back from representing Malta in the T20 tournament. Well done boys, and good luck!

Harvest Festival

Our Pre-Prep and Prep pupils enjoyed a fantastic Harvest Festival at St Martin’s Church in North Perrott yesterday, and were suitably armed with goods to donate to the Lord’s Larder in Yeovil, Somerset. Our 42 strong choir were on particularly fine form and their rendition of Rutter’s ‘Look at the World’ was magical (as was our Head Chef Ray’s wondrous Harvest Loaf). Well done to all the children, and a big thank you to Rev J Morris.

Day Out at Yeovil Fire Station

Our EYFS enjoyed a brilliant day out at Yeovil Fire Station, where they learnt all about fire safety and got to meet the firemen, sit in the fire engines and try on the helmets. They also got to see how the firemen respond in a real situation, as a call came in while we were there! Thank you to everyone who made our trip so enjoyable; the children loved it.

Dr. Marc Morris

On Wednesday we were lucky to welcome the eminent Medieval Historian Dr. Marc Morris who spoke to all the children in Years 7 and 8 on the Norman Conquest. It was a fascinating lecture which was well received by pupils and staff alike. The talk sparked lots of questions from the pupils, some of which were ‘excellent and insightful’ and surprising. In the ensuing lessons the pupils have been buzzing about the talk and have applied what they have learnt into lessons.
