It was a pleasure to welcome our friends from local primary schools Ash, Chilthorne Domer, East Coker, Hambridge and Preston for our annual Year 6 Mock Trials, presided over by a team of real-life magistrates from the Yeovil Magistrates’ Court. This year’s defendant in the dock was the fictional Jackie Jones, who stood accused of dangerous driving, with each school having to present a case for either the prosecution or the defence. Congratulations to the overall winners, Chilthorne Domer, and many thanks to our adjudicating magistrates – Mary Ellis, Susanna Hanson and Lindsay Wilson.
Congratulations to our U11s, who played a blinder at the IAPS Rugby Festival at Sherborne School yesterday. The team won all seven matches, scoring over 20 tries without conceding. An incredible achievement! Many thanks to Sherborne for hosting, to the referees and other schools for providing some great competition and to Mr Sutherland for his superb coaching. Well done, boys.
We are delighted to have been shortlisted for Prep School of the Year at the Independent School Awards, in association with Independent School Parent. Making the shortlist is a testament to all the hard work that is put in by our staff in order to provide a bespoke and all-round education for every pupil – and we’d like to thank the entire Perrott Hill community for playing their part in this success. The winner will be announced in December – watch this space!
Our boarders have been enjoying a range of different activities this week, as part of the new Golden Hour in boarding between 6.30pm and 7.30pm each day. Activities to choose from include cricket nets, hockey, mixed netball, board games, retro gaming, music practice, arts and craft – and more! A great addition to our already brilliant provision in the boarding houses.
Years 3 to 8 experienced an incredible WW1 day at Hooke Court recently, where they took part in drills and marches, got stuck into trench repairs and handled artefacts, before coming together for a final Act of Remembrance. What a powerful and insightful day, in the run up to the centenary of the Armistice. Our sincere thanks to everyone at Hooke Court, along with our Head of History, Mr Finch. Lest we forget.
The debating season got underway this month with a rousing Year 8 debate: This House believes violent video games should be banned. Great arguments put forward by all and some spirited questioning from the floor! Well done to all our speakers.
Our orchestra have been in full swing this week, rehearsing the Overture from Music for the Royal Fireworks by G F Handel ahead of their performance at this year’s Friends of Perrott Hill Fireworks and Bonfire Night. We can’t wait!
Our first Pre-Prep Apple Day earlier this month was a huge success, thanks to the wonderful Adrian and Gracie Cooper from local conservation charity Common Ground, along with our amazing Pre-Prep staff. As well as learning about the life cycle of an apple, making apple juice and baking apple cakes, our children also got to make bird food, do apple printing and take part in various apple games. Many thanks to all for such an enjoyable and informative morning.
We are thrilled to announce that Perrott Hill has been shortlisted for Prep School of the Year at the Independent Schools Awards, in association with Independent School Parent. What a testament to all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes here to provide such a stimulating, varied and all-round education for our children. The winner will be announced in December – watch this space!
We are over the moon to read yet another glowing write-up of Perrott Hill, this time in the Angels & Urchins Schools Guide. It reads: “We have rarely come across a school so lavished with praise by its parents as Perrott Hill. The pupils love it. We failed miserably to find fault either. The family atmosphere is the real deal; fizzy dedicated staff and terrific teaching. A small school, everyone gets involved in sport. Children wear manners as well-worn clothes and not strait-jackets.” Proud to be Perrott!
