Short Story Success

Congratulations to Year 7 pupil Alistair, whose short story on the theme of ‘space’ has been shortlisted for the St Mary’s Shaftesbury ‘Born to Write’ competition. There were over 230 entries from schools across the South West and the judging was taken on by a team of staff from St Mary’s along with journalist, BBC presenter and Wellcome Book Prize judge, Razia Iqbal. Well done Alistair – and good luck for the prize giving ceremony next week.

More Scholarship Success

Congratulations to Alexander, who has been awarded a Richard Hunter All-Rounder Scholarship to Bryanston. Thoroughly deserved and we are all delighted. This takes our scholarship tally for the year up to 18 and counting, which out of a year group of 26 pupils is mightily impressive. Proud to be Perrott!

Fun in the Dorms

Our boarders had a great time in the run up to half term. At the weekend, they enjoyed a brilliant 80s themed activity weekend, with a disco (complete with Miss Myott’s fruity punch!), film and party games, followed by a trip to Flip Out trampoline park on the Sunday. Mid-week, they split into teams and battled it out to draw ten famous phrases for their team mates. Great fun!

Religious Education in Pre-Prep

Our Pre-Prep children came together for a special morning of Religious Education last week, with a carousel of activities looking at the different elements of Judaism. As well as looking at the story of Hanukkah and making a menorah, they learnt about the significance of the Star of David, had a session on the synagogue and why it’s a special place for Jewish people and made their own dreidel, before playing the game. A brilliant morning of learning, many thanks to Mrs McCullough and all the staff involved.

Scholarship Success

Congratulations to Toby and Chester for their Academic and Music Scholarships and Exhibition to Blundell’s, and to Lola for gaining the Headmaster’s Award – one of only three this year! We have also received the news that Stella (not pictured) has been awarded a Drama Scholarship and Art Exhibition, to go alongside her Sports Scholarship. Fantastic achievements, well done to you all.

U11 Training Session

Our roster of external sports coaches coming into Perrott from senior schools is impressive, with specialists from Millfield, Canford and King’s College, Taunton in the past year, to name a few. This week, our U11 boys enjoyed a brilliant hockey training session with Mr Corbin O’Grady, Head of Cricket and Hockey Coach at King’s Bruton, while our U11 girls had a shooting workshop with Mrs Ireland, Head of Netball. Many thanks to you both for sharing your skills and expertise.

STEM Science Club

This week in STEM science club, senior pupils have been working towards their CREST Awards, the British Science Association’s scheme for STEM projects that inspires young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers. As part of the awards, they have to complete a 10 hour project – with different groups running experiments on bath bombs, tea bags and lemonade.

Year 8 Debate

Our Year 8 pupils battled it out in the Grundy Hall last week, contesting the motion ‘This house believes nothing is more precious than independence.’ After some rousing speeches and thoughtful questioning from the floor, the motion was defeated by a miniscule margin. Well done to all our speakers, along with our super-efficient timekeeper and Chair. We are very proud of you all.

Scholarship Success

Scholarship season is well under way and we are thrilled to bits with the news that five of our pupils have been awarded scholarships to King’s Bruton. These awards sit alongside Stella’s Sports Scholarship to Blundell’s and Lucy’s Art and Drama Scholarship to Wellington School, and are a testament to the rich tapestry of opportunities we provide at Perrott Hill. Very well done to you all and we look forward to announcing more scholarship news over the coming months.

Fun in Forest School

Years 1 and 2 have been honing their survival skills in Forest School this week, with workshops on fire lighting and shelter building; the children made a ‘blobster’ to leave in their shelter until next week, when they will find out how efficient it was. Others were using the bow saws and hammers to finish their owls and they all came together to tuck into some toast and eggs – wrapped in foil and baked on the fire, of course!
