We’ve unearthed a treasure trove of old Perrott Hill Review magazines, with pictures and stories going back to the early 80s. It’s incredible how much – and yet how little – has changed (we especially love the photo of the horse outside what is now our Nursery). We’re very much looking forward to sharing even more memories at our OPH get together in September; if you’re coming along, please do bring any photos and old reports/magazines with you as we’d love to see them. For more information, please contact Libby on reception@perrotthill.com.
Our U12s enjoyed a top Cricket Festival at Wells Cathedral School last week. Many thanks to the staff and children at Wells for their superb organisation and great cricket and to our friends at Sherborne Prep for some top matches. In other news, well done to the Perrott Hill Equestrian Team who continued their winning ways two Sundays ago by coming first in their class at Badgeworth – and to Year 7 pupil, Nia, who won the 200m at the recent South West Athletics. Team Perrott is on fire!
And they’re off! There was much excitement in the Grundy Hall as our Year 8s set off on their Leavers’ Trip this week; we can’t wait to hear all about it as the week progresses. Meanwhile, we are looking forward to celebrating National Boarding Week this week and our Year 2 children are starting their transition into the Prep. Adventure all round…
Many thanks to our wonderful children, grandparents and staff for a glorious Grandparents’ Tea Party just before we broke up for half term. The sun was shining, the tea and cakes were flowing and the Junior Choir and Wind Band were on fine form on the Front Terrace. Very well done to the children for being such incredible hosts; we are looking forward to next year already.
Year 5 have been honing their writing and reciting skills this term ahead of the annual Year 5 Storytelling Competition at the end of June. This morning, they enjoyed an inspirational masterclass with Perrott parent and novelist extraordinaire, Boris Starling, who talked about the basics of storytelling and the importance of conflict. Thank you, Boris – we can’t wait to see what the children do with your wise words.
Year 3 are busy preparing their entries for the The Moon Competition, organised by Discover Sherborne in support of installation artist Luke Jerram’s internationally acclaimed Museum of the Moon which is coming to Dorset for the first time in July. The monumental moon sculpture, seven metres in diameter and created using high-definition NASA imagery, will be displayed in Sherborne Abbey from 5th-7th July. We are very excited to be a part of this incredible project – check out www.dorsetmoon.com for further info about the event.
It was great to see so many families and OPHs on our stand at the Royal Bath and West last week and we were delighted to have a visit from the show’s joint President, Countess Bathurst (pictured with the Headmaster), on Saturday. Many thanks to all the other people we met along the way and, of course, to the organisers for all their hard work – we can only imagine the time and effort it takes to pull off a show like that… It was an incredible atmosphere and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
Very well done to Jemima and Lucy, who competed in last month’s U13 IAPS Sailing Regatta at Portland; they had a great race sailing a two Feva. Many thanks to Perrott parents David and Nessie for their ongoing support and encouragement and to IAPS for running a top event, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Last week’s House Music Competition was a roaring success, with an array of impressive solo and House performances. Very well done to all the children but especially to Darcy and Anton for their prodigious pieces on the harp and the accordion respectively, to Blackdowns for their winning House performance of the Beatles’ Hey Jude (which well and truly brought the house down!) and to Brendons, who were crowned overall champions. Many thanks to Mr Shortman for masterminding yet another exceptional event, to our wonderful music department and House staff and, of course, to the man who had the toughest job of all – our superb guest judge, Mr Gladstone from Radley College.
Our youngest children in Nursery and Reception enjoyed a wonderful morning of mini (and not so mini!) beasts, courtesy of the brilliant Nick from Bugfest. As well as handling a variety of stick insects and bugs such as the darkling beetle and the giant African millipede, they got to look at and learn about a range of spiders, including the camel spider, tarantula and red-legged golden orb weaver. They loved watching their teachers hold the spiders, too! An amazing morning of hands-on learning to consolidate the children’s work this term.
