Our Year 8s had their Leavers’ Dinner Dance recently and it was, in the words of one parent, ‘magic’. Many thanks to Mrs Palmer and Perrott parent, Deborah Johnson, for the incredible pics (the full album can be seen on our Facebook and Instagram pages) and here’s to the next adventure. We’re going to miss this brilliant bunch…

We are so proud of our Pre-Prep children, who took part in a brilliant Sports Day in the beautiful sunshine on Saturday. Many thanks to our Director of Sport, Mr Sheldon, our Pre-Prep staff and to Miss White, Mr Sutherland, Mr Percival and Miss Hand, who have all been working with the children in the run up. It was heartwarming to see so many Prep pupils and Old Perrott Hillians cheering the children on, too! Well done, team.

We were privileged to welcome author and war time evacuee, John Hollands, to Perrott Hill last week for a hugely insightful talk to Year 6 about his memories of life during World War Two. John also judged the model Anderson shelters the children have been making as part of a cross-curricular art, history and DT project and pronounced Poppy as the winner. Well done, Poppy!

We recently hosted our inaugural Orchestral Morning at Perrott Hill, where our pupils teamed up with pupils from King’s College, Taunton and musicians from the Somerset County Youth Orchestra to create one ‘super’ orchestra, culminating in a fantastic half hour concert at the end. The rousing finale of Brahms’s ‘Hungarian Dance No.5’ raised the roof! Many thanks to our wonderful Director of Music, Mr Shortman, along with the visiting musicians for such an uplifting morning of music.

Very well done to our Year 3 children, who have collectively read more than 10 million words in the Accelerated Reader scheme this year. Special mention to Max and Jasmin who have read over two million words, George B and Samuel with over one million words and to Horatio and George K who have passed 104 and 84 quizzes respectively. What a fantastic achievement Year 3, well done.

Year 7 enjoyed a ‘voyage fantastique en Bourgogne’ last week, where they visited Vézelay and Flavigny, took part in a French mosaics workshop and cooked up a storm, baking ‘le tartouillat’. In the evenings, they played some pétanque and Loto, practising their French throughout. Many thanks to our wonderful hosts at Maison Claire Fontaine, along with Madame Brooks, Mr Kane and Mrs Tarrant, for leading such a fun and insightful trip. Félicitations à Alistair et Pelayo pour avoir été nommés Ambassadeur de Maison Claire Fontaine!

Our annual Year 5 Storytelling Competition took place in the Library on Friday afternoon and featured an impressive array of stories, both written and recited by the seven finalists. Katya won with her story ‘That one Halloween’, closely followed by Rosie with ‘The House’ and Toby S with ‘The Adventures of Raj’. Well done to everyone who took part (including the mastermind behind it all, Mr Silk) and the biggest thanks to our guest judge, the one and only Boris Starling, whose masterclass in creating conflict earlier in the term well and truly paid off.

To celebrate our brilliant beekeeping club and as part of an ongoing project to raise awareness of bees, Year 3 have been working on a series of paintings in the art studio this term. These will form part an exhibition at the North Perrott Fruit Farm this summer, alongside the older children’s mixed-media sculptures made out of recycled materials. It’s exciting watching it all come together!

We are delighted to announce that Perrott Hill has been shortlisted for not one but TWO prestigious awards at the Independent Schools of the Year Awards, in association with Independent School Parent magazine. Once again, we are proud to be flying the flag for small country prep schools on the national stage!

The Perrott Young Farmers paid a visit to Neil Baker’s farm in neighbouring Haselbury Plucknett before half term, ahead of his brilliant lecture on farming. They witnessed his huge rotary milking parlour being put through its paces, saw the cows munching on their supper and saw the farm’s two bio digesters at work. The digesters are powered by the methane generated by the slurry from the farm’s 1,800 cows and provide enough electricity to run the farm and plus an additional 900 homes. Many thanks to Neil for a superb afternoon and a fascinating lecture as part of our Years 3-8 Lecture Programme.
