Our singers, musicians and boarders paid a return visit to the residents of the West Abbey Care Home in Yeovil last week, for a wonderful evening of carols. It was magical to see the residents singing along with the children – and well done to those who performed solos. Many thanks to Madame Brooks, Mr Shortman and Mr Whalley for leading the trip and to everyone at the West Abbey Care Home for welcoming our pupils once again. We are looking forward to our next visit already…
The biggest well done to our amazing Pre-Prep children, who shone like stars in last week’s nativity. From the stellar acting and incredible singing (shout out to Mary and Joseph!) to the hilarious performances from the French visitors, the snoring shepherds and the dancing sheep, every child performed their role with aplomb. Many thanks to Ms Williams and our wonderful Pre-Prep staff including director extraordinaire, Mr Edgar, to Mr Shortman and his band and to all the staff involved in lighting and set design behind the scenes. But most of all, thank you to the children for a truly unforgettable performance; we couldn’t be prouder of you all if we tried.
Pupils in Years 3-6 turned old newspapers into clothes for a Recycled Fashion Show this week, to celebrate a fantastic term of learning in Eco Club. From ballgowns to warrior outfits, the creativity on display was awesome! Big thanks to Mrs Layfield for providing bags of inspiration throughout the year.
Year 5 took part in the annual French sandwich making competition last week, following a recipe with instructions en français to create their masterpieces. Well done to Tilly for her winning sandwich (very neat triangles and creatively stacked!), and to runners up Alice, Henry, Rose K and Ruby for their efforts. Très bonne application et compréhension du vocabulaire, Madame Brooks était très impressionnée!
The dorms were decked with holly on Saturday for our Christmas activity weekend, complete with handmade advent calendars, games in the Sports Hall and hot chocolate with a Christmas film. Big thanks to Miss Myott, Mr Edgar, Miss Hand, Mr Percival, Mr Whalley and Miss Gibson for such a brilliant weekend of fun, along with Head Chef Ray for the delicious festive feast.
We are delighted to announce a new scholarship structure at Perrott Hill, with 9+ and 11+ scholarships now available. The scholarships are open to children currently in Years 4 and 6, who demonstrate significant potential in one or more areas of school life. Scholarship day is on Friday 7th February 2020 and the following categories are available: Academic, Art, Drama, Music, Sport and All Rounder. Interested applicants should request an information pack from our admissions department, by calling 01460 72051 or emailing admissions@perrotthill.com. Our Spring Term Open Morning takes place two weeks before Scholarship Day, on Friday 24th January 2020, and we would encourage interested families to come along.
Well done to our U11 and U13s, who played some great rugby at the Bryanston Sevens tournament this week. “The opening clashes saw Perrott play some lovely sevens, drawing the opposition from side to side and exploiting the gaps,” says Director of Sport, Mr Sheldon. “With so few players on the pitch though, it is vital to have the ball and work spaces. The tournament provided a great opportunity for the boys to learn about playing sevens rugby, which will lead them into next term.” Special mention to Perrott player of the match, Anton, for his strong tackling and good exploitation of space – and many thanks to all at Bryanston for a top day of rugby.
Many thanks to all at King’s College, Taunton for an incredible Prep School Strings Day this week. Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed getting into the festive spirit alongside The Downs Preparatory School, Exeter Cathedral School and King’s Hall School – and the music they all produced together was nothing short of remarkable. Well done, everyone.
The Grundy Hall played host to an incredible art scholars’ workshop with former Perrott parent and photographer extraordinaire, Deborah Johnson, last weekend. Following some lighting demonstrations covering quality of light and lighting patterns, the group discussed why and when they would use different lighting and then recreated a set up from a Rembrandt painting. Pupils also tried their hand at using a DSLR camera to take photographs of each other and Perrott Hill staff, with impressive results. Bravo, everyone.
We were honoured to welcome John Grundy, son of our founding Headmaster, back to school last week. John rolled back the years in his lecture for Years 2-8 as he described growing up in the early days of Perrott Hill. With the help of cine footage and a sequence of photographs he traced the history of the North Perrott Manor and its transformation into a school in 1946. The children were spellbound as he reminisced about a place that clearly holds a very special place in his heart. Thank you, John.
