Careers Talk

Many thanks to Perrott parent, Mr Dan Keeping, who gave an intriguing insight into what it takes to become a pilot, as part of our programme of careers talks for senior pupils. From nimble Sea Harriers to hulking Boeing 747s, the former Naval Officer turned Cathay Pacific Captain took the children on a supersonic tour of his thirty year career in military and civil aviation. Thank you, Dan.

Upper Prep Loft Night

Year 7 and 8 girls enjoyed a brilliant session of drama with Mr Silk on Friday, as part of golden hour in boarding. Each group was given a prop and the sound effect of their choice, with some stellar performances on show… Up in the Loft, the girls enjoyed a spot of pampering with Mrs Layfield and Miss Hand, before settling down to watch The Grinch. Fun, friends and a Christmas film – the perfect Friday night! Thanks to all involved.

Mary Fedden Art Exhibition

Congratulations to Middle Prep pupils, Evie and Samuel, who were awarded Best in School and Runner Up at the recent Mary Fedden Virtual Art Exhibition, hosted by Badminton School. This year’s theme was ‘wonder and wonderment’ and the judges said of Perrott Hill’s entries: “What was striking was the ambitious size of the pieces of work – every piece A2 in size which is remarkable. Evie’s painting of a cat leaping in the air captures a wonderful freeze-frame moment and is a really confidently executed piece of work, while the complementary oranges and blues in Sam’s work create an eye-catching piece.” Very well done to you both and to all the pupils who took part.

Pre-Prep Activities

Our Pre-Prep children have been cooking up a storm with Miss Catharine in her ever-popular ‘Round the World’ Cookery Club. This week, the children made an Indian dish, Goan prawn curry with basmati rice and chapatis, which we hear tasted every bit as good as it smelled! In First Aid Club, the children are now able to put a person into the recovery position and assist someone who’s choking. Meanwhile, the children are having great fun in Sports Club. This week, Miss Hand ran a football game with a dancing warm up and our tennis players have been working on racquet control and volleying at the net with coach, Richard Douglas.

Odd Socks Day

To raise awareness for Anti-Bullying Week, staff sported their finest (or is that funniest?) odd socks. Mr McCullough spoke to Prep pupils in assembly about what anti-bullying means in practice and reinforced the importance of kindness and friendship. The children enjoyed voting on the best socks and were delighted to see their teachers having a bit of fun to support a serious and important topic.

In this week’s prep they were busy revising vocabulary, using illustrations to help them learn the words, and they’ve also been translating into Latin as well as from Latin to English. optime, Year 5! bene facitis; keep up the good work.

Year 7 Debate

Friday’s Year 7 debate saw pupils argue the rights and wrongs of keeping wild animals in captivity. Well done to the proposing and opposing teams who presented their ideas with passion and eloquence, and to the chair and timekeeper for keeping a tight rein on the proceedings. The motion to ban animals in captivity was eventually carried by 38 votes to 20.

Our Nursery children have been using the bow saws to make Christmas baubles in Forest School, and last week got to decorate them with paint and glitter! Cue lots of excitement… Many thanks to our Forest School supremo, Ms Bresland, and our amazing EYFS staff for being a constant source of ideas and inspiration.
