Many thanks to Wells Cathedral School and Bryanston for a cracking day of sport in the sunshine on Wednedsay. The boys enjoyed some top hockey matches here at Perrott, while the girls took part in the U13 and U11 Netball Tournament at Bryanston. All eyes are now on tomorrow afternoon’s lacrosse training session with Miss Foice!
Year 4 have been working on their entries for the IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) global youth art contest. Mrs Palmer has been blown away by the children’s responses, with this year’s contest encouraging them to depict endangered and critically endangered wildlife within the habitats and ecosystems where they live. Great work, Year 4!
Our Pre-Prep children have enjoyed a fantastic start to the new term. The EYFS theme of ‘pirates’ has been a hit and the children have wasted no time in getting stuck into the new pirate ship in Mrs McCullough’s classroom – it’s is a marvel! Pupils have been working hard on their handwriting as well, learning the basic letter joins with some excellent results. Year 1 have been impressing Mr Edgar in maths, where they have been learning to count in threes. They have also been learning about odd and even numbers and realising that no matter how large the number is, it’s the last digit that really matters! Meanwhile, Year 2 are looking at ‘forces’ in science. After watching some online BBC learning zone clips, they were asked to make a marble run to explore what makes things speed up, slow down or change direction. There were some lively discussions resulting in some lovely work.
We are extremely proud to introduce our Head Boy and Girl, Freddie and Eleanor, and Prefects for this term. Our Heads of School and Prefects are appointed in recognition of their personal qualities and efforts and, following their first meeting with Mr McCullough and Mr Silk, the team are raring to represent the school. As well as our Heads of School and Prefects, we also have Captains and Vice-Captains of Netball, Hockey, Football, Art, Ceramics, Tinker Lab, Boarding and Music, as well as Head Chorister and Heads of House. Very well done to you all.
Welcome back everyone, and Happy New Year! The children were fired up and ready to go this week as we kicked off the term with our Headmaster’s Assembly and belated internal Prize Giving. Well done to all our pupils for a fantastic autumn term despite the challenges, and congratulations to those children whose achievements were celebrated. Among them was Year 8 pupil, Toby, who was selected for not one but TWO football teams at the end of last term: the Yeovil & District Schools’ squad (18 boys selected from state and independent schools in South Somerset) and the Independent Schools’ Football Association South West regional squad (14 boys selected from independent schools across the South West). An incredible achievement Toby, very well done – and here’s to a happy and healthy 2022 to us all.
We are extremely proud of the generosity of Perrott parents and staff, who have this term bought and donated almost 300 presents for the Bristol Children’s Hospital’s charity, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal. Thanks to your kindness and the kindness of many others, the children at the hospital are going to have a very special Christmas indeed. Many thanks to Pre-Prep parent, Ann, for organising the Perrott donations and hand-delivering the gifts on behalf of our school community. Merry Christmas, everyone!
No panto? No problem. Our Pre-Prep children had a fun and festive morning of Christmas activities last week, where they made Christmas cards and hats, painted pine cones and wrote some beautiful acrostic poems. Later, they enjoyed a spectacular Christmas Party and had great fun meeting Father Christmas!
Three cheers for our amazing catering team for a delicious Christmas lunch with all the trimmings this week. We might have been depleted in numbers, but we more than made up for it in Christmas spirit: the festive jumpers were out in force! Many thanks too, to our incredible staff who have worked tirelessly to make it a week to remember for the children in school. We’ve had quizzes, carols and presents galore – and even a visit from Father Christmas! Team Perrott, we salute you.
Pupils and parents came together for a glorious evening of carols and readings in the Grundy Hall last week. Featuring an array of musical performances and readings, as well as as carols in Mr Shortman’s own inimitable style (a special mention to the Headmaster for his impromptu solo!), it was a lovely festive evening next to the roaring fire. Many thanks to Mr Shortman and our merry band of music teachers for their enthusiasm and support.
Very well done to our amazing Year 8 art scholars, who last week planned and taught an art lesson in Pre-Prep on how to paint and make a recycled Christmas tree. The Year 2 children listened intently and produced some incredible work – it was a wonder to behold! Well done Year 8; the rest of the school are so fortunate to have such wonderful role models leading the way… (PS spot the beards – it was the start of Nativity week!)
