French
Children are introduced to French in the EYFS and lessons continue until Year 8 when the children take Common Entrance or Scholarship exams. Pre-Prep children enjoy a weekly lesson, mainly based on songs and speaking activities.
Years 3 and 4 enjoy two lessons a week, while there are three lessons per week for Years 5 and 6, and four lessons per week for Years 7 and 8. Lessons are designed to be enjoyable and interactive, with pupils making regular use of the computer suite to complement classroom teaching. The syllabus draws on elements of the National Curriculum, Common Entrance and Scholarship modules, concentrating equally on speaking, listening, reading and writing.
All pupils have the opportunity to visit France for a week in Year 7 to experience French culture first-hand.
