Drama

Every child at Perrott Hill has the chance to perform on stage. Our focus is on building self-confidence, developing teamwork, creative skills and enjoying working towards a public performance.

Children will be able to investigate a range of media including film, set design, physical theatre and script writing and work with a variety of techniques including mime, mask, silent movies, slapstick, musicals and even soap opera.

Formal year group productions take place in Pre-Prep, and Years 4, 6 and 8. Year 5 take part in a story telling competition and Year 7 in a public speaking competition. Recent performances include a stage adaptation of ‘The Borrowers’ by Mary Norton (adapted by Steve Evans) and ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ by Michelle Magorian. All children can put themselves forward for a slot in the sometimes rather anarchic Christmas Show and we also host House Poetry Recitals and a Year 6 Mock Trial.

We work very closely with the art and music departments and the children are actively encouraged to help with the technical side including making the props, costumes and set so that they have experience of every aspect of the performance. Drama is a weekly timetabled lesson for all year groups and extra drama and musical theatre lessons are also available throughout the school, at an additional cost.
