Perrott Hill History
The main school building, North Perrott Manor, was completed in 1876 replacing an earlier manor house that had stood to the north-east of the church and had been damaged by fire. The Manor was home to the Hoskyns family until the outbreak of the Second World War.
During the war, children from several schools in London and the Home Counties were evacuated to rural locations. One such school was Feltonfleet in Surrey, which was evacuated to North Perrott Manor in 1940. The staff and children stayed at North Perrott for the duration of the war and returned to Surrey in early 1945. At this point, rather than returning to his family seat, Major Hoskyns decided to lease the manor house.
Perrott Hill was founded in 1946 by Bill Grundy, who had been a teacher at Feltonfleet and his wife, Nora. Since then, it has served as an award-winning independent day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 2-13.
In 2021, Perrott Hill joined Stirling Education, a group of schools across Europe, India and the Middle East, as their ‘flagship’ UK school. In 2024, Stirling Education formalised a partnership with Winchester BV. Under the direction of CEO Albert Sarli, it is Winchester BV which has primary responsibility for the investment planning and strategic support of Perrott Hill School Ltd.
Developments since 2021 mean Perrott Hill no longer has charitable status but it has been ‘business as usual’ in all other respects: the much-loved family ethos and character of the school has stayed the same, as has the leadership and staff team and, indeed, the board of governors who have considerable experience between them.
