U9A Cricket v Port Regis (H)

Port Regis batted first and under heavy bowling fire and superb fielding from Perrott were kept to a gettable 253. Thanks mainly to a stunning 4-over performance with the bat from Tommy and Gerleif (and Luke adding a good few too) Perrott passed their target with 4 overs to spare. We then tried very hard to give away our lead with lots of wickets falling in quick succession but luckily we clung on.  Men of the match wereTommy and Gerleif for excellent batting, communicating well and running their socks off.

U9B Cricket v Port Regis (H)

In the blistering sun, the under 9B team took to the field in good spirits. Perrott were put into bat, but lost early wickets through the lack of a defensive shot. From then on, the batsmen started to hit more form and gradually increased the total. In the field, Perrott bowled with reasonable accuracy and fielded well by throwing themselves around to stop the ball. Port Regis batted well and just beat the total to end a thrilling match.  Player of the match was Brandon for some great fielding.

U9B Rounders v Clayesmore (A)

We took to the field and although we made some great stops, throws and catches, they seemed to be scoring at a steady rate throughout their first innings ending up on a score of 7.  In response, we could only manage 4 ½ and needed to show a little more urgency in reaching first post to increase our scoring opportunities. Through much tighter fielding second time around we kept their scoring down and needed 5 ½ runs to win.  We started well; consecutive half rounders from Darcy and Poppy, followed up by scores from Amelie and Ellie, but then the runs dried up and it looked like we would come up a little short. Up stepped Issy who converted her backwards hit into a rounder (and a half for obstruction) with some intelligent running. This tied the game.  Some very encouraging evidence of the progress that has been made this term on the rounders pitch.  Fielder of the match was Lily (good fielding at 2nd post).  Batter of the match was Darcy (with a mention for Issy who was joint top scorer).

U9A Rounders v Clayesmore U10 (A)

The girls opened the batting strongly hitting out and running whenever possible but it was hard to break through the Clayesmore’s tight fielding in the first innings. We managed to score 3 rounders thanks to Ashtyn, Meadow, Minty and Rosanna taking every chance to snatch a half at second post. Clayesmore’s big hitters replied with 9 rounders in their first innings despite excellent bowling from Tara and tight fielding at second post from Ashtyn and Captain Meadow.  We found our feet in the second innings with stronger hitting and braver running, scoring eight thanks to two full rounders from Hattie, one apiece from Flossie, Ashtyn and Rosanna plus several well-judged halves. Tighter fielding in Clayesmore’s second innings, particularly some spectacular throwing from Lucy and quicker decision making from the whole team kept the opposition total down and resulted in a much closer final score of 15 ½ to our 11.  Overall, we showed a huge amount of promise, enthusiasm and enjoyment of the game.  Players of the match chosen by Clayesmore were Rosanna for strong batting and wise judgement when running and Tara for superb bowling and accurate throwing in the field.  Special mentions to Minty for her focus and determination and Hattie for giving her all to score a full rounder on the last ball of the match.

U8A Cricket v Port Regis (A)

Perrott batted first.  They did a reasonable job, but kept on getting out too often; so they’d take two paces forward, one pace back, and so on.  We were lent PR’s worst two players to even numbers, and that didn’t help much!  Four overs per pair was the most we’d ever played, and some of us were stretched by that length at the crease.  After tea (very nice homemade cakes and scones, whipped cream and strawberry jam) we fielded…and although their first pair put up a good show, it was something of a rout after that…Toby especially impressed their umpire (who usually took the 1st XI) with his pace bowling.  It was a long afternoon, but worthwhile…our U8s are still looking like a real team, and Brodir (Captain), James, Freddie and Henry all scored runs, or took wickets, stumped or caught members of the opposition.  Fantastic, Perrott Tigers!  Player of the match was Ollie for all-round astuteness in the field, as bowler and batsman (‘shot of the match’) too.

U12A Rounders v King’s Hall (H)

It was a delight to take the U12 girls in their match against King’s Hall. All of the girls had a go at a key fielding role and played extremely well. India, Bonnie, Izzy and Amelia all bowled well, varying the technique and speed of the ball. Marcia, Lila, Florence and Grace played back-stop and displayed good knowledge of the rules. Lila, Marta, Grace and Bonnie kept good focus when playing 1st/2nd base runner, all managing to get lots of players out with reliable hands and quick thinking. Sofía, Meadow, India and Amelie all performed well as short, stopping many balls which could have easily been half rounders. They all played very well. Perrott lead until the very end of the match when Marcia scored a tremendous rounder from the last ball for King’s Hall!!!  Well done to all who played.

There were no players’ chosen for player of the match as the teams were mixed.
