U12A XI v Sherborne Prep at Milton Abbey (A)

After a picturesque drive down into Milton Abbey the boys (and girl) warmed up, we lost the toss and were made to field. The opening over set the pace of the game, a drop catch off the first ball then a wicket with the second ball! Perrott Hill continued to bowl well with the ball picking up wickets when needed. Archie F captained superbly and led by example in the field. However, one strange idea of his that worked was giving the current 1st XI wicketkeeper Charlie B a go with the ball! 2 overs later and 3 wickets later, it seemed to be a great bowling chance! Even though we bowled Sherborne Prep out within 30 overs, we still allowed them to get 10/20 more runs than they should have had. This was due to our lack of walking in in the field, we allowed them just to knock the ball at us and run.  With the bat we fell agonisingly close! We started slowly, but a partnership between Charlie B and William O put us on track. William O playing some truly lovely strokes. Sadly, he played one shot too many and was caught off a top edge. After that we struggled to wrestle the momentum away from Sherborne Prep. It was also not helped that our calling and running between the wicket lacked confidence.  However, even though we lost the children behaved and represented the School superbly. They also played the game with the right spirit in keeping with game and where we were. We would like to say a massive thank you to Milton Abbey for hosting us.
