“Time and space for a full education”

Headmaster's Welcome

The warmest of welcomes to Perrott Hill, particularly if this is your first experience of us. My family and I joined the school community in September 2015 and immediately found it both vibrant and imbued with a natural ease and warmth.

Perrott Hill is a coeducational day and boarding school for about 220 children aged 3-13 situated on a stunningly beautiful site close to the Somerset-Dorset border. The school has been variously described conversationally as ‘a hidden gem’ and ‘a well-kept secret’ and there is undoubtedly something very special indeed about it, captured by the phrase ‘time and space for a full education’ which is at the heart of all that we do.

Our small size has many benefits. It helps us take great care that the pupils are known, taught and nurtured as individuals within a genuine family atmosphere, whilst still allowing for an inspiring range of opportunities in which all get involved.

The children are encouraged to have a gentle self-confidence, a positive mindset, and to be the very best they can. Manners and courtesy are important; good humour and care for one another central.

With our curriculum, we seek to look afresh at what it is that we are actually preparing our children for. By definition, this should be the raison d’être of a preparatory school. We are fortunate in benefiting from the strong retention of the very best legacies of a traditional heritage, such as a clear emphasis upon manners, a warm smile and first impressions; an active programme of debating and visiting speakers; a central position for personal reading in the school day; a commitment to an all-round education through a broad range of provision, both academically and beyond the classroom. Keeping these at our heart whilst engaging with the opportunities and challenges of rapidly-developing technology and with the debates about what it is that ‘a good education’ should provide in this day and age is an on-going process to which we are committed.

I hope that the website gives some sense of all the wonderful things that go on, and do please pay us a visit to get a true sense of how your child would flourish at Perrott Hill.
